Imagine a world where all male celebrities are sent off to war—including our sports heroes. Who would entertain audiences then? That’s the central driving point in the Geena Davis-led sports ensemble, A League of Their Own.  And this, is I Dream of Geena: Part Two.

At Bat with A League of Their Own

Penny Marshall’s 1992 sports comedy is a rambunctious period piece that highlights the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Focusing on sisters Dottie (Davis) and Kit (Lori Petty), A League of Their Own is an ensemble piece that watches the Rochester Peaches come together and win American audiences over to women’s baseball.

This week, Dustin dives into the four waves of feminism to discuss the film’s attempts to be empowering while falling into the same traps as many “white savior” narratives. And, we discover that while there is no crying in baseball, there is crying in podcasting—but only off mic.
