Welcome to week three of Shocktober 8: The Ocho! Arthur has given up as Dalton cements The Ocho as the official subtitle this year. But, you’re not here because of that. You’re here because of the heavy hitter on the analysis table this week. We’re joined on the GenreCast movie podcast this week by the wonderful Alexandra Bohannon to discuss her blind spot, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Psycho Analysis… Get It?!

It is always wonderful to have Alex back at the table, and we were very excited to finally be able to talk Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Arthur and Dustin were both giddy with anticipation. 1960’s Psycho is now notable for a number of reasons. The story of Marion Crane, who makes a series of bad decisions, comes face to face with the boy next door, Norman Bates. But, Norman has a lot hidden behind those peering eyes and motel walls.

Hitch’s approach to the movie wasn’t of much note at the time. He wanted to do something cheap and easy following North by Northwest, so he took his Alfred Hitchcock Presents crew and shot a trashy horror movie. A trash horror movie that stands as one of the main bloodlines of the slasher subgenre. Filled with multiple points of analysis, we didn’t shy away from taking our time with one of the heaviest hitters to every cross our analysis table.

And it’s all thanks to the wonderful Alexandra Bohannon.

Don’t forget to tune in next week when Dalton picks his blind spot.
