As we continue our look back on 2019, we find ourselves looking at a movie that was the center of discussion early in the year. Robert Rodriguez’s manga-adaptation Alita: Battle Angel opened around the same time as Captain Marvel. It became something of a trolling point as certain online groups review bombed Captain Marvel and pushed for audiences to go see Alita: Battle Angel. Rodriguez’s adaptation follows an amnesiac cyborg who is repaired and searching for her purpose in life.

We then expand our syllabi with discussions of female action heroes, class warfare in 2019, and more.
