Howdy partners, the GenreCast movie podcast is back from our ocean cruise to continue our trek west. We enter the late 60s to discuss the George Roy Hill classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Dalton’s concerned about his swimming skills, but he learns that podcast will probably kill him.

Who Were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?

Butch and Sundance, as played by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, are a pair of charming thieves making their way across the country. They go to elaborate efforts to knock over banks and trains. After crossing the wrong man, they begin looking for an out and find themselves en route to South America.

As we have throughout this marathon, we continue to discuss the nuances of genre. In regarding Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, we also dive into an examination of film criticism and biases often held by critics. Arthur posits that had Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid been presented in a foreign language, critics such as Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert might have had a different opinion.

But before getting down to business, the gang highlights some other American folk legends that would be fun film fodder. Finally, we give you some movies you should watch with/or instead of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Looks like the posse is closing in, we’ll see you next week!
