Welcome to another edition of the GenreCast movie podcast. This week, we’re investigating the legal system in interesting ways as we take on F. Gary Gray’s 2009 thriller, Law Abiding Citizen.

The GenreCast v. Law Abiding Citizen

After Clyde Shelton’s wife and daughter are assaulted and murdered, the two perpetrators are sent to prison. Prosecutor Nick Rice is wary about his chances to convict both men, so he sets a plea deal in motion for the murderer, Darby—who throws his accomplice Ames under the bus. There is no honor among thieves, or so they say. 10 years later,  Ames is set to be executed, but it goes awry. Soon after, Darby goes missing. Clyde stands at the center of all these events. Clyde sees a failing system and plans to go to war with everyone involved.

We sit down to first review Law Abiding Citizen. Drawing comparisons to Saw, 70’s exploitation thrillers and 90s fare, we soon move to analysis. This week, we discuss the failings of the legal system. The ins and outs of plea bargaining are also explained. We also look at the structure of the script itself.

Next week, we’ll be back with a new episode, unless we get released on good behavior.
