A Life of Misery

Rob Reiner’s big screen take on the Stephen King novel has held strong in the hearts and minds of horror fans for 30 years. And, in an era where studios are seemingly starting to bow to the whims of fanbases, Misery seems even more prescient.

The story of an injured author held captive by an obsessed fan has a lot of potential for failure. Reiner and William Goldman, however, put together an indelible classic piece that has stood the test of time thanks to a combination of writing, directing, and those lead performances.

This week, we glowingly review the film before offering our course syllabi and then throwing Misery onto the analysis table. We’re discussing Annie Wilkes, fan culture, Stephen King, authorship, and much, much more this week.

Join us now! And settle in for a spook-tacular season of horror flicks as we return next week to kick-off SHOCKTOBER 9!
