That’s right, the Praisedown is back with another episode titled “Gothpel!” It came up organically and we all elected not to question it, because we actually happen to like it! This week, we’ll be discussing a selection from the band Lift to Experience, but first: your praisedaddies are sitting down with an Oklahoma City-based award-winning filmmaker, Mickey Reece! Join us for conversation about:

  • BDSM Church?
  • Whether or not 12 is too young of an age to do psychedelics!
  • Is there Mpreg in the Bible?

Once you have endured that, we’ll reward you with a discussion on an album that is hands down, one of our favorites of all time: Lift to Experience’s 2001 release, The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads!

Lift to Experience gives you some “yee-haw” to go with your Yahweh

Lift to Experience’s story is a short one. The band formed in 1996, and was fronted by Josh T. Pearson. After recording a self-titled EP and a split 7” with The Autumns, Lift to Experience were invited to play the 2000 SXSW festival. Their set impressed execs from Bella Union Records so much, that they were signed to the label by the end of the day.

Enter Lift to Experience’s only LP release (the band broke up shortly after): The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads. Laden with effects heavy guitar, forward-moving zappa-esque passages, and Pearson’s crooning vocals, The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads not only predates more household names in the Texas post-rock tradition, but also shows them who’s boss. For more analysis, check out the episode below. This album is extremely good and you should know about it, so don’t miss this!
