We’re talking about Lifehouse this week on the Praisedown! Heath and Alex sit down once again with Oklahoma City based comedy duo and creators of the film PimPam: The Martin Duprass! This one starts hot and gets hotter, strap in for:

  • Heath and Jill meeting a powerful demon!
  • The audacity of naming your music group the genre of music you perform!
  • Can Christians smoke weed? Can they believe in aliens?

Pretty good right? Yeah, we’re going to make it up to you by talking about the debut Lifehouse LP, No Name Face (2000)!

Lifehouse makes an of-the-times, crossover splash with No Name Face

Lifehouse frontman Jason Wade took up songwriting to cope with family difficulties when he was young. Wade eventually would join his next-door neighbor, as well as other friends to form Bliss. Bliss gains clout playing local high schools and colleges, and Wade eventually meets Michael Ostin, principal of Dreamworks Records. Bliss became Lifehouse with the release of their debut LP, No Name Face.

No Name Face is, no understatement, a crossover smash. It sold four million copies worldwide. Lifehouse’s hit single, Hanging by a Moment, was named Billboard’s “No. 1 Song of the Year”. Lifehouse got to perform on an episode of Smallville. Despite No Name Face being over a decade old, it was everywhere in 2000-2001. Now that we’re temporally far enough away from it’s release, it’s a fascinating example of a genre in transition. We can hear how No Name Face is drawing from the grunge influences that preceded it, and is blazing a trail towards heartfelt, sensitive indie rock.
