*Producer’s note, in the synopsis, Arthur references The Sixth Sense as Shyamalan’s sophomore feature, it was actually his third feature film.

Going off the tracks with the Unbreakable Trilogy

In the year 2000, M. Night Shyamalan returned with his fourth feature film, Unbreakable. A quiet, domestic story about a security guard (Bruce Willis) who appears to have unnatural abilities landed right alongside the first titles in the superhero cycle of the new millennium. David Dunn’s efforts to figure out who he really is drives this quiet thriller in Shyamalan’s then trademark style. Following a rocky 15 years or so, Shyamalan returned in 2016 with Split. Split plays as a dangerous thriller all its own, until the final seconds of the film, when David Dunn appears. Shyamalan then brings everything together in 2019’s Glass—a mostly panned film that connects the three major characters together for an anti-super hero showdown.

In Part One of our two-episode arc, we give in-depth reviews about each title in the trilogy. We also discuss the trilogy as a whole and whether it works.

Tune in next week, when we return with our in-depth analysis of the Unbreakable Trilogy.
