Episode 351 of the GenreCast has us tapping and dancing our way through 1952’s Singin in the Rain. Starring Gene Kelly (who directed the film and who sang Singing in the Rain) and Debbie Reynolds, Singin in the Rain is a lauded Hollywood Musical. It sits at #20 on Sight & Sound’s greatest movies list. Therefore, it qualifies for our AntiTrash 2020 marathon.

This movie about movies is a first time watch for both Arthur and Dalton. We get caught up in the music and comedy as we explore what we like about the film and what’s going on under the surface. Dustin brings up conversations of cultural appropriation in regards to dance and ideas of camp and queerness. We also dive into format shifts and much more in this analysis of Singin in the Rain.
