Bonjour et bienvenue! It’s a new year, which means it’s time for our annual AntiTrash marathon!

It’s the one time of year where we actually put our hair up and find our fanciest clothes because WE ARE talking about the movies you DO discuss inside a film studies course. Not only that, but we’re also celebrating a milestone episode number, Ep. 400! We’ve somehow done this 400 times (more with bonus content). And we’re excited for the next 400!

So, since the stars aligned for Ep. 400 to fall during AntiTrash, what better way to start a new year and a new marathon than with the acclaimed French New Wave masterpiece The 400 Blows.

Time Stamps:

00:30 – Introductions and Synopsis

06:52 – Quick The 400 Blows Reviews

19:23 – Expanding the Syllabus

34:51 – Analysis

1:06:13 – Shelf or Trash

1:07:34 – Wrap up and Next Week’s Film

To the Ocean with The 400 Blows

François Truffaut’s lauded semi-autobiographical film signaled a new movement in cinema now known as French New Wave. Bucking the traditions of the directors that came before him, Truffaut scraped by to make a movie about troubled youth utilizing realism, on-location shooting, natural lighting, and more groundbreaking ideas.

This week, we’re discussing the French New Wave, Truffaut’s style, destiny, how we look at ourselves, how we connect with the film, and much, much more.

Thank you again for 400 episodes, and we’ll see you next week as we continue our journey through the films of France.
