#FlashbackFriday strikes again, listener, and we’re serving up more Wachowskis as we look at these autuers’ blockbuster hit from the GoodTrash vault The Matrix. This week’s episode is brought to you by us selecting Cloud Atlas from our randomizer.

We’re cribbing from your freshman class philosophy class this episode as we examine The Matrix minus one Arthur Gordon. In his place, we have filmmaker and frequent contributor to GoodTrash Media Nick Sanford speaking his analysis regarding “one of the best pieces of sci-fi of all time.”

After glowing reviews all around, the three amigos begin their analysis. Nick starts with discussing why 1999 was a turning point in cinema and about how western cultures started questioning identities and personhood. Dalton crosses philosophy with sociology when discussing Plato’s allegory of the cave and sociological imagination. Finally, Dustin finishes with a rather complex Lacanian psychoanalysis reading crossed with Marxism, especially applied to the Columbine school shooting. It seems bonkers and it is, but in all of the ways that Dustin is smarter than anyone I know. Definitely listen to that section–my synopsis does it no justice.

Finally, they all recommend their own films to pair with this film (Nick Sanford recommends Titanic–tune in to learn why). The the lads play their game–groundbreaking films–and they’re all fired up in pop culture.

So will you choose the red pill or the blue pill? Listen to our episode and decide for yourself.
