Tradition meets Belief in Fields of Freedom

An article from the Cincinnati Enquirer explains that Ric Blair’s Irish and Scottish ancestry informs the mission of his band, the Nashville Celts, often simply referred to as the Celts. Ric Blair appreciates the irony of falling in love with Celtic music in Norwood, Ohio. Despite this, he believes his Cincinnati-area roots have equipped him to continue in the Celtic music tradition.

“One of my best friends called me up. I was studying and had tons of homework. And it was just a little Irish pub that was Downtown that was no more…It was like, ‘Man, this music is so happy, so fun.’ People were dancing on their chairs. It was like, ‘That is what I want to do.’ There was no doubt. And we’re talking 1980. That was way before ‘Riverdance’ and Celtic Woman and the height of popularity of Irish and Scottish music and Celtic music.”

Upon earning his degree of performance in jazz guitar, Blair set his sights on making Christian Contemporary music. Soon after, he would form the Ric Blair Band. The Ric Blair Band released Fields of Freedom in 2006.
