The new podcast begins! The first season of breaking down a late night standup set joke by joke with a different comedian each time and we start with Eddie Tafoya. It goes deep on the first joke of an Andy Kindler set on David Letterman in 2014.

Host Wampus Reynolds bio: Wampus straddles Oklahoma and New Mexico. He’s a cheesemonger by day, and tired cheesemonger at night. As a standup comedian, appeared at Blue Whale Comedy Festival and opened for Todd Barry, Allen Strickland Williams and Josh Gondelman. He hosted (hosts?)  a live club talk show (@reynoldsprogram on the twitter) and is the only person with combined 4-3 record on Jeopardy! and Win Ben Stein’s Money.

Guest Eddie Tafoya bio: Eddie Tafoya lives in Albuquqerque. A town he grew up in while enduring arrests and Catholicism. The way out he found was the vocation of writing. He has written several books about comedy, fiction and non-fiction alike and he does standup too!

The show: Wampus welcomes the listener on a phone recording and then plays the weirdest podcast theme song. After hearing a joke by famous and ingratiating comedian Andy Kindler, Wampus and guest Tafoya talk about what an opening joke and what it should do for the rest of the set. They talk about the mechanics of a joke and the difference between club sets and televised sets are. And then they talk about more general subjects. It’s a good solid conversation that sparks thoughts and ideas for all.
