As 2018 comes to an end, we look ahead to our “best of” lists and see we need to fill in some blind spots. In an effort to have a well rounded idea of the movies from 2018, each host picked a movie to discuss. Dalton brings this little semi-marathon to an end with A Prayer Before Dawn.

This 2018 release is a tough watch. It’s a brutal, visceral adaptation of boxer Billy Moore’s memoir of the same title, chronicling his stint in a Thai prison. Pardon the pun, but the film never pulls its punches. It is brutal, antagonizing and tragic to watch these events unfold.

But does it offer anything to say? We throw A Prayer Before Dawn on the analysis table to look at its violent ways, realism in cinema, the cult of the studio and much more. But, to take the edge off, we play a game—our favorite cinematic fighters.
