We wrap Shocktober 7 in style as we take a look at Dario Argento’s Suspiria, Inferno and Mother of Tears, collectively known as the Three Mothers Trilogy. We also discover that one of these things is not like the others… at all.

Discussing Dario Argento’s Suspiria, Inferno & Mother of Tears

We told Dustin he couldn’t choose anything international or art house for Shocktober 7, so we could bring you this monolithic discussion over the Three Mothers trilogy. And, what better time to bring this to discussion than a week before Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake hits.

Collectively, the titular Three Mothers are witches who live in three different parts of the world, Germany, Italy and America. There powers potentially threaten humanity. The three films see different characters tackle the three witches in each of their sanctums. Suspiria is the best known, and tells the story of a young dancer who goes to Germany to a dance academy. While she is there, weird things begin to happen. Inferno takes us to New York, where a young woman begins investigating a series of odd occurrences, and summons her brother for back up. Mother of Tears concludes the trilogy 30 years after Suspiria’s release.

We kept this one as one piece, so it’s a long discussion. We start with our reviews, debating whether we prefer Inferno or Suspiria and our misgivings about Mother of Tears. The game is next. This week, we talk about Classic Horror Movies we would like to see remade, and Dustin has a winner. Finally, we get into analysis. Our discussion has us tackling the cinematic experience, misogyny, giallo and more.

Where did that red light come from? Whose gloves are those? We’ll find out and see you next time!
