We’re chatting about Lauren Daigle this week on the Praisedown! Jill, Heath and their new co-host and homeschool graduate Eli sit down once again all by themselves because Eli’s mom wanted them to! We’re going to have some good clean fun this episode, or else! Enjoy the following:

  • Get to know Eli some more!
  • Hear everyone’s “indie” voices!
  • We make Eli a Christian Mingle account live!

Also, please help yourself to to discussion of Eli’s mom’s favorite album: Lauren Daigle’s Look Up Child!

Lauren Daigle’s Look Up Child is palatable Christian Pop that makes some surprising choices

Lauren Daigle is the Christian Contemporary genre’s newest heavyweight vocalist. After competing in the 2010 and 2012 seasons of American Idol, Lauren began appearing on worship compilations such as North Point InsideOut’s album Hear. By 2014, Lauren released her first EP, How Can It Be.

The central focus of this episode, however, is Lauren Daigle’s well decorated 2018 release, Look Up Child. The album’s single, You Say, tied her with Carrie Underwood for longest reign by a female artist (26 weeks) in the history of the Hot Christian Songs chart. Lauren Daigle is clearly a huge deal to CCM, and she should be. Her voice is powerful and well-supported; more than enough to carry listeners through Look Up Child on its own. Unfortunately, we found this album too soft around the edges. Look Up Child gives listeners some fascinating decisions musically at both the performance and production level. However, at times I could feel myself wishing those fascinating moments were less sparse throughout my listen. That, or I wish that the backdrop for these fascinating moments was more robust.
