Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks

We’re back with more discussion of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks love trilogy that defined the 90s rom-com. This episode picks up right where last week’s ended. And, we jump right into analyzing Joe Versus the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.

We start with Joe, looking at the film’s use of “the broken road” trope before discussing the film’s issues with race. We then move into Sleepless in Seattle. The film doesn’t quite work for us, so we break down exactly where it goes wrong. This is also our opportunity to talk about Ephron and her love of classic cinema. Intertextuality in her work becomes a point of conversation and transitions the discussion into You’ve Got Mail.

Join us this week as we wrap up the massive two-piece look into America’s favorite on-screen couple.
