It’s Shocktober 7, BAYBEE! And we’re talking The Ring (2002).

That’s right, it’s been 7 years of haunted October marathons, and this year we have some tricks and treats up our sleeve! We start the month with a round of host picks. Arthur, Dalton and Dustin plan to pick some of their favorite horror movies before ending with a big surprise!

Into The Ring

The Ring

We kick this Shocktober off with Gore Verbinski’s The Ring! The 2002 remake of the Japanese Ringu was a success in the early oughts. The film is spooky and moody, but does it offer much for analysis?

This story of an investigative journalist who discovers a video cassette that kills anyone who watches it became a beloved meme. Images of the ghostly girl wound up parodied a number of times, speaking to the films mainstream appeal.

In this episode, we break down the film’s use of urban legends. The gang also looks at how it predicted viral media and was maybe a bit ahead of its time. Lastly, the topic of parenting comes up. All of that goes down after the game is played. This week, Arthur, Dalton and Dustin look at their favorite spooky technologies.

Oh, our phone just rang, we’ll see you in seven days…
