Carl Th. Dreyer’s look at the trial of Joan of Arc is one of the most acclaimed movies of all time, with an iconic performance from Renee Falconetti.
The maybe 19-year-old Joan is on trial for heresy and crossdressing. But, she claims to have been called by God. The English military and the priests in their pocket have other things to say.
We discuss at length Dreyer’s style, his intentionality with this story, a look at state and religion, and much, much more as we discuss The Passion of Joan of Arc.
