Album art for the Chariot's 2010 album, Long Live.

The Chariot was a Christian metalcore band based out of Douglasville, Georgia. Unlike other Christian metalcore acts, The Chariot often foregoes melody in exchange for more abrasiveness and atonality. The bandleader, Josh Scogin (formerly of Norma Jean), is the only original member of the band, and was the facilitator of frequent and unexpected lineup changes. During his tenure with The Chariot, Scogin wrote and peformed on themes such as materialism, Christian spirituality, and personal struggle.

Long Live, The Chariot’s fourth studio album, was released in 2010. In order to achieve a more raw sound, the band tracked Long Live on magnetic tape, live. This album, while cacophonous, vitriolic, and abrasive, redefines “heavy” for Christian metalcore, a genre in desperate need of an update to that definition. While this album may be a difficult listen for those uninitiated to metalcore, the themes in this album are clearly and thoughtfully communicated.
