Welcome back to episode 284 of the GoodTrash GenreCast a movie analysis podcast that looks at cult and genre films that you won’t talk about in a film studies course (in most instances). On this week’s show, the gang looks at THE 90s rom-com couple: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. That’s right, we’re talking Sleepless in Seattle (as advertised), You’ve Got Mail and Joe Versus the Volcano.

The IT couple Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

Romantic Comedies in the 90s were defined by Meg Ryan. She found her voice with the Nora Ephron-penned When Harry Met Sally. She then paired up with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano. The two had an undeniable chemistry and paired up again, with Ephron as director, in Sleepless in Seattle, which was a financial and critical success. The team wrapped it up in the 1998 hit, You’ve Got Mail.

We thought that it would be fun to really dive into this pairing, a move that’s not very common in today’s Hollywood. So, in part one of this two-part mega-show on Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, we give our reviews and thoughts on the movies, both individually and as a whole. We also highlight our favorite moments from each film in this week’s game.

Oh, we’re about to be live on the radio, listener. Tune in to hear what we have for you!
