Over the next few days, we’re going to look back at our landmark moments and our host’s favorite episodes. We kick things off with one of our first concept episodes, a discussion of the Harry Potter Film Franchise. This episode is notable for two main reasons. First, it was a rare move away from our normal discussion style. And second, and more importantly, it is the first appearance of Alex Bohannon.

The Harry Potter Film Franchise

Alex and Dustin met at the University of Central Oklahoma. After hearing her present at a conference, he decided to ask her to guest host and discuss one of her favorite topics, Harry Potter. What she didn’t know was that it was sort of an informal audition of sorts.

As a podcast made up of three straight white dudes, we knew we needed a bit of diversity. So, Alex showed up and we talked the ups and downs of the whole Harry Potter film franchise. We even offered our analysis to the works as a whole.

After her appearance here, Alex would return on Episode 80 to discuss Aliens. She became a permanent host for nearly three years following.

Alex brought new energy, ideas and insight to the show. And, she inspired the team to try new things, encouraged us to diversify the filmmakers we talked about and encouraged us to push farther than before.

The sound quality in this episode isn’t up to the standards of future episodes, but the energy is still a lot of fun.

Grab your wands and let’s go back to Hogwarts.
