The Pledge, The Turn, The Prestige

Are you listening closely? This week, we’re taking on Christopher Nolan’s last film before skyrocketing to new heights in 2008. The Prestige is nestled nicely between his first two bat-films.

Focused on dueling magicians in the ultimate game of oneupmanship, The Prestige is set during the time of Edison and Tesla. A time when technology was new and magical, and magic was a road to fame.

The Prestige is a key text in understanding Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker. Featuring many of his stylistic trademarks, The Prestige takes us back to a time before The Dark Knight and Inception turned Christopher Nolan into something of a lauded film magician.

This week, we’re talking about the absence of God, Nolan’s issue with fridging, Edison and Tesla, and much, much more.
