Denison Marrs gives us a turn-of-the-millenium indie rock album that leans further toward shoegaze

Eric Collins formed Denison Marrs with his friends in 1995. Originally under the name Divine Child, the band changed its name due to complications signing with 6×6 records. Denison Marrs stayed together for ten years and released five albums before their breakup in 2005.

I failed to coin this phrase during the recording, but Denison Marrs is a prime example of what I will call “church camp shoegaze”. When compared to traditional shoegaze, Denison Marrs’ ambient passages have a tint of praise and worship laid over them. This is honestly my most compelling case for calling World Renown for Romance a good Christian record without poring over the Genius page for it. You can hear it trying to connect to something higher.
